Mangal Dosha Explained

Across India, 'Is the boy or girl Manglik?' is one of the first questions families ask when a rishta is proposed. A chart carries Mangal Dosha — Kuja Dosha in the south, Chevvai Dosham in Tamil Nadu — when Mars occupies house 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 or 12, measured from the Lagna, from the Moon or from Venus. Traditional texts connect it with strain between husband and wife, which is why it gets checked before shaadi.

Mars in one of those houses is not the end of the story. The classics also give bhanga, or cancellation, conditions — particular placements that switch the dosha off for that chart. Our checker runs these single-chart rules and shows two things: whether Mars technically triggers the dosha, and whether it still counts once the cancellations are taken into account.

Being Manglik does not rule out a good match. Tradition holds that when the bride and groom are both Manglik, the effect neutralises across the pair; that is a two-chart question, handled in kundli milan rather than here.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Manglik marry a non-Manglik?
Families often prefer two Manglik charts together, because tradition treats the dosha as neutralised for such a couple and regards the pairing as sound, even auspicious. A Manglik with a non-Manglik partner is judged by the full charts — run both through kundli milan to see the complete picture.
My result says 'Manglik, but cancelled'. What does that mean?
Mars does sit in a dosha house, but at least one classical bhanga condition — tied to the strength or position of Mars itself — also holds in your chart. In that case the dosha exists on paper yet is not treated as active.
