Diwali 2026 Upay by Rashi: Remedies for All 12 Signs
Diwali Lakshmi Puja falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026. Alongside the main Ganesh-Lakshmi puja, many families add a small remedy (upay) linked to their rashi and its ruling planet. Here is the offering, colour, daan and mantra for each of the 12 signs, drawn from the remedies that recur across established panchangs and publications.

Why remedies are matched to your rashi
Each rashi is ruled by a planet, and each planet has its own colours, foods and materials. Mars favours red, Venus white and fragrance, Mercury green, the Moon milk and white flowers, the Sun ghee and light, Jupiter yellow and Saturn oil and sesame. Rashi-wise upay simply route your Lakshmi worship through the planet that governs your sign.
Lakshmi herself is closely tied to Venus (Shukra). On Diwali the Sun sits in Libra, a Venus-ruled sign, and the puja is timed to Vrishabha lagna, the other sign Venus rules. That is why white sweets, lotus, silver and fragrance appear so often in Diwali offerings.
In Vedic astrology your rashi is your moon sign, which is often different from your Western sun sign. Not sure of yours? Use our Moon Sign Calculator with your birth date, time and place.

Remedies for every sign
These traditional Diwali-night practices apply to everyone, whatever your rashi:
- Clean and light the main door. Draw a Swastik and write 'Shubh Labh' at the entrance, hang a toran of mango or Ashoka leaves, and place a diya on each side of the door.
- Offer lotus flowers or kamalgatta to Lakshmi, and recite the Shri Sukta during the puja.
- Offer two haldi knots to Ganesha. After the puja, tie them in a yellow cloth and keep them where you store money.
- Keep a silver coin in Gangajal overnight, then sprinkle the water around the home and at the door the next morning.
- Avoid lending or borrowing money on Diwali, and avoid wearing black for the puja.
The Mahalakshmi mantra
Whatever your sign, this is the Lakshmi mantra Drik Panchang describes as the most widely chanted. It can be recited during the puja in place of, or along with, your sign lord's mantra.
ॐ श्रीं ह्रीं श्रीं कमले कमलालये प्रसीद प्रसीद ॐ श्रीं ह्रीं श्रीं महालक्ष्म्यै नमः॥
Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Kamale Kamalalaye Praseed Praseed Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah

In Vedic astrology your rashi is your moon sign, the sign the Moon occupied when you were born. It is often different from the Western sun sign you see in magazines, so check your moon sign first.
Are these remedies a replacement for the regular Lakshmi Puja?
No. They are small additions to the usual Ganesh-Lakshmi puja, done in the same muhurat. Do the main puja first, then add the offering and mantra for your sign.
Why do different websites give different remedies for the same sign?
Rashi-wise upay are traditional beliefs, and families, regions and astrologers follow different versions. This guide lists the offerings that appear across several established sources and that match each sign's ruling planet.
How many times should I chant the mantra?
There is no single fixed rule. Many families chant one round of a mala, 108 times, during Pradosh Kaal, while others chant 11 or 21 times. Steady attention matters more than the count.
